Journals recommended by VAK / OAK
VAK / OAK journals are publications included in an official list recognized for publishing the main scientific results of dissertations. For Uzbekistan, one should rely on the official OAK list.
In detail
When people say “VAK journal” or “OAK journal,” they usually mean that the publication is included in the official list of recommended scientific journals. This status is especially important for those preparing a dissertation or working within the academic attestation system.
For an author, this status matters because the publication may be counted
- during dissertation defense;
- in research reporting;
- when confirming publication activity;
- in the requirements of certain scientific and educational bodies.
Do not rely only on the journal’s own claim
If a journal website says that it “is included in the VAK/OAK list,” this should be checked against an official source rather than taken from a promotional description.
Lists may be updated
A journal may have been in the list earlier, but its current status should be checked against the current version of the list or the official website of the authorized body.
VAK/OAK and Scopus are different
A journal may be included in the VAK/OAK list but not indexed in Scopus, or it may be indexed in Scopus but not included in the VAK/OAK list. These are different recognition systems with different purposes.
What is important to remember
VAK/OAK status should be checked using the official list and the date of verification, not only the information on the journal’s website.
